Join us for Vernon’s Advanced International Retreat 2023

RETREAT COSTS AND LOGISTICS

6 – 12 FEBRUARY 2023 (6 nights)

The retreat starts at 10am on Monday, 6 February,
and finishes with breakfast on Sunday, 12 February 2023

International Students must fly to Johannesburg.

The hotel can only allocated us 32 rooms at this beautiful and sought-after venue over looking the Kruger Park so places are really limited on this retreat. The cut-off date for bookings is 1 JANUARY 2023, but bookings are on a first come basis so to avoid disappointment please make sure you don’t leave your booking to the last minute.

There are options to arrive at the venue 1 night early, and extend your stay by 2 nights and depart on the morning of 14 February.  If you are NOT opting to arrive at the venue the day before, please arrive no later than 8am on Monday 6 February for a 9:30am start, but please remember the venue is at least 6 – 7 hours from Johannesburg.

The retreat finishes late on the night of the 11th and you are free to depart after breakfast on Sunday 12 February. There is a bus back to Johannesburg on the 12th and 14th February.

EXTENDED STAY

It is possible to extend your stay at this venue by arriving 1 night early, and/or staying for 2 extra nights after the retreat.  This time allows you to relax and enjoy the unspoiled African bush, go on game drives, spa treatments, laze at the pool or explore the surrounding beauty in this uniqe part of South Africa. Extended stay bookings can be made below.  All extended stay must be confirmed 21 days prior to the event. There is a bus from Johannesburg on 5 February and back to Johannesburg on the 12th and 14th February.

Getting there?  Bus from Johannesburg to the retreat venue

Because our venue is 7 hours by bus from Johannesburg, to make it easier for international students we will be chartering a bus from Johannesburg to the Kruger venue on 5 February. Departing Johannesburg at 9am on 5 February from the Fire and Ice Hotel in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg. This is optional and will be for your account.  The ticket includes a Return seat on the bus either on the 12th or 14th of February back to Johannesburg.  The bus will depart the Kruger venue at 9.30am on both the 12 and 14th arriving at Oliver Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg at approximately 16:00hr.  When booking your flights please allow for the unforeseeable and make sure you have more than plenty of time.

FLYING IN TO SKUKUZA

A reminder to those of you flying into Skukuza airport.

The hotel can arrange airport transfers from Skukuza airport at R470.00 per person per trip.

The Sanparks conservation fee must be paid by yourselves at the airport on arrival and at the entrance gate back to the airport.  The cost now is R110.00 per person per trip.

Insurance

Weather, packing and mosquitoes

Daytime temperatures can be in the mid to upper 30’s. All rooms are air-conditioned. February sees the last of the summer rainfall and the occasional late afternoon thundershower can occur. The most enjoyable time of day to do a game viewing drive is early morning or late afternoon – there are many safari companies in the area offering these excursions.

Useful things to pack: Binoculars, Mosquito Repellant, Rain jacket, Swimming costume (the resort has two swimming pools), Sunhat, Sunscreen, Torch.

Health Precautions to take during February

Kruger is malaria high-risk zone between November and April. Mosquitoes are not very common, but to be on the safer side, carry mosquito repellants and perhaps consider taking a course of prophylactics if you are concerned.
